The camp has been operating since 1932, and to this day, nearly 3,000 volunteers have contributed to its organization and operation. Specifically, in the last 20 years, more than 230 new volunteers have joined.
Most volunteers have more than 5 years of volunteer experience, and many of them were campers themselves some years ago.
During the camp period, volunteers take on and cover all the necessary roles assigned to them. All roles in the camp are filled by volunteers and are equal among them, giving each person corresponding responsibilities and duties.
New and returning staff members undergo training every year through seminars and workshops.
Each year, the staff plans and implements creative activity programs and aesthetic education, forms theater groups, organizes hiking excursions, participates in the publication of the magazine ΘΡΟΪΣΜΑ, and takes part in numerous events organized by their own initiative.
Τhe main roles at the camp
Group Leaders: The main element of the camp, after the children, are the group leaders. They are responsible for a group of 10 children, work in pairs, and they follow the children’s program throughout the entire period.
Community Leaders: They are responsible for a community made up of 4 to 5 groups. They ensure they assist the group leaders and the children of the community, guiding them throughout the day.
Kitchen Team: The chef plus 20 volunteers are responsible for preparing and distributing food (5 times a day), cleaning the dishes, the kitchenware and the kitchen space after each meal, and managing food supplies (ordering, storing, and transporting).
Technicians: A team of volunteers responsible for all repairs and maintenance, ensuring the equipment functions properly.
Management Team: The members are responsible for various activity areas and tasks at the camp. They are volunteers with many years of experience at the camp and specialized knowledge. The final responsibility for the operation of the camp lies with the Director.
All staff members whose roles allow it also take on areas such as sports, creative activity clubs, and various support tasks. So, you might see a director participating in sports or the chef performing in a theater play!
Pedagogical team
The development of programs for the psychosocial support of children, the training of volunteers, and their encouragement is the responsibility of the Pedagogical Team, which is composed of specialized and experienced professionals.
In the seminars organized every year, which are a prerequisite for a volunteer’s participation in the camp’s educational activities, the speakers are members of the Pedagogical Team and specialized professionals.
Engineers
The Technical Works and Studies Team, responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the camp’s facilities and equipment, is supported by the decisive contribution of engineer and technician friends who design the studies for free, supervise, and/or carry out the projects with their own labor.
International volunteers
Since 2003 and continuously until today, in collaboration with the international volunteer organization SCI or through applications from our website, a workcamp is organized every summer, where at least 12 volunteers from other countries participate. These volunteers take on several of the support tasks at the camp.
Since 2003, more than 60 international volunteers from 20 countries around the world have helped, and many of them have returned for more than one year.
